So glad you’re here.

True North Birth offers compassionate preconception, pregnancy, and birth education and support for those seeking their true north.

About True North Birth

True North Birth began as a seed in 2020, before I became pregnant with my oldest son. Pre-conception was an Olympic sport to me, and I was determined to give my baby the best possible shot. We quickly became pregnant, but even after I hired a doula and assembled a care team, I still felt so much was missing. My wheels were constantly turning, and after leaving prenatal appointments disappointed I didn’t receive more guidance, I’d come home and do deep dives into every resource I could get my eyes on.

After a less-than-desirable home birth transfer and unplanned hospital birth, I realized that my perspective on birth and all the choices that surround pregnancy needed to shift—I was seeking answers in providers when the answers were within me all along.

Since the redemptive home birth of my youngest son, I’ve organized all the resources and wisdom I’ve gained along the way to serve people like me, who are eager to critically think through the choices that shape their first steps into motherhood.

About V

I was born and raised in metro-Detroit and have the gumption to show for it. I’m a first-generation college graduate, and I’ve been a professional writer for a decade. I savor outside time, audiobooks, listening to my granny’s stories, and reading to my babies.

I’m married to an engineer who is my personal cheerleader and voice of reason. We have two beautiful babies and a golden retriever.

I find joy in experiencing simple things through the eyes of my sons and creating a life for them that heals my inner child. Being in community with fellow strong-willed women fills my cup.

I’m a gal’s gal through and through, and I can’t wait to meet you.

When I say I’m here for you

I do not give medical advice or care.

I’m a resource in your pregnancy and birth toolkit. We will talk through your choices by referring to evidence-based research, clinical practice, and anecdotal experience. My job is to empower you to make your own choices that feel right with your spirit and to advocate for your choices in your birth setting.

Everything you need is already within you; I’m here to guide you on your journey and bring you closer to the birth you desire.

It’s my greatest wish that no matter the outcome of your birth, you feel safe, loved, and heard.

Inclusivity Statement

As a student of Birth Arts International Childbirth Education, inclusivity in birth is at the heart of what I do: helping you to feel seen and heard. I serve birthing people of all ages, races, body types, ethnicities, sexes, genders, sexual orientation, abilities, relationship status, and religious beliefs. I recognize my privilege and work intentionally to acknowledge and remedy my implicit bias. Inclusivity is always evolving and I remain committed to growing with an open mind and heart to serve people as they are.

FAQ

  • Whether you’re planning a homebirth, hospital induction, an unmedicated birth center birth, a scheduled c-section, or any birth in-between, I’m here to support the options that make you feel safe, loved, and heard.

  • Doulas provided limited support during pregnancy and are typically present for your birth to guide you through comfort measures and provide emotional support.

My job as a preconception, pregnancy, and birth educator is to help prepare you for the choices you’ll make throughout your journey by looking at evidence-based research, clinical practice, and anecdotal experiences.

We are both considered non-medical roles on your care team.

  • I highly recommend doulas, especially for those giving birth for the first time. I recognize sometimes doulas are not in the budget, in which case, my services will prepare you with a birth plan you can feel confident in.

  • I recommend taking a childbirth or comfort measures class through your doula or provider. We will discuss comfort measures on your birth plan, and it’s important for your support person(s) to learn those techniques as well.

  • While there are many ways birth can unfold that are outside of our control, there are so many things that are in our control, and that’s what a birth plan is for. Putting our wishes to paper so we can be fully present for birth is priceless and integral to a beautiful experience.

  • Not at this time. Talk to me if budget is a concern. We’re in this together.
